Staffing Technology Trends: Automate, Integrate, Participate
Technology advances are changing the way staffing companies interact with customers and employees, and the array of new products and services can be overwhelming. Here to help us sort out what's new and what works is Sara Moss, co-founder and president of The Code Works, a staffing technology consultancy. Ms. Moss will review staffing technology trends and share her insights about basic functionalities ASOs should have in place to meet customer expectations and deliver good service. She'll also suggest technologies ASOs can adopt to improve their efficiency and discuss the level of investment needed to integrate these technologies into existing systems. |

The Gulf Coast Alternative Staffing Initiative is a multiyear project seeded by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation to help displaced workers reattach to the labor market in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. A thorough feasiblity and business planning process led to the recent launch of our three host organizations: Options Staffing Solutions in Houma which celebrated its one-year anniversary in August, StaffUP Resources in Baton Rouge which launched in October 2009, and Community Staffing Services in New Orleans, which opened for business this past March. We'll have a conversation with the directors of all three ASOs to learn about their start-up experiences, current activities and plans going forward. |

Everybody Wins! Using Short-term Sectoral Training to Develop Entry-Level Workers, Create Value for Customers and Outshine the Competition |
|
Royal Salon C |

Warehouse and manufacturing job placements offer a good fit for many ASO job seekers given their modest education requirements, higher relative wages and accessibility for individuals with criminal records. Competition for these placements is often tough, however. We'll hear from two organizations, Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas, Ft. Worth and DePaul Industries in Portland, Oregon, that have developed basic, 40-hour trainings and certifications in logistics and food processing to meet employer demand and enhance job seekers' readiness, knowledge and potential for success in these sectors. Employer representatives will also be on hand to discuss their industries' business trends and outlook, entry-level staffing needs and issues, the value of the workforce training to their operations, and their experience in hiring and supervising certified workers. Panelists include: |

Persuading Employers to Hire Ex-Offenders: Three Perspectives
ASOs reduce employers’ risk in hiring ex-offenders by ensuring their job seekers are thoroughly screened, highly motivated, and well-supported before and during job placement. Despite this, placing ex-offender candidates remains particularly difficult. We'll hear multiple perspectives about effective approaches to persuading businesses to hire qualified ex-offenders from professionals who are walking the talk in their roles as employers, city managers and job placement intermediaries.
