Certified B Corporations promote an inclusive economy and operate as forces for good in the communities where they operate.

Alliance members and Certified B Corps MaineWorks in Portland, Maine and WorkSquare in Miami, Florida have been honored as Best for the World: Customers, in recognition of their impact delivering business services that promote public benefit, target underserved populations, and work to solve social issues.

Earning this award requires scoring in the top 10% on the Customers portion of a comprehensive assessment administered to over 2,400 Certified B Corps by the independent nonprofit B Lab. The full assessment measures each company’s impact on its workers, community, customers and environment.

WorkSquare has operated since 2008, combining temp-to-hire job placement with financial literacy training to empower its workforce to grow income, save money and start building assets. WorkSquare also serves as a valued recruiting partner to its clients by waiving waiting periods to hire its employees, in contrast with traditional staffing agencies’ conversion policies.

MaineWorks, launched in 2011, supplies labor for commercial and highway construction, groundswork, and industrial businesses, and focuses on recruiting and supporting job seekers in recovery from substance use disorder. MaineWorks partners with the nonprofit Maine Recovery Fund, which assists employees with proper work attire and job site transportation and connects them with vital housing and healthcare services.
