Millionair Club Charity begins new century as Uplift Northwest

October 7, 2020

Alliance member Millionair Club Charity (MCC) in Seattle has changed its name to Uplift Northwest to better reflect its focus.

Uplift Northwest provides temporary employment, vital support services, and housing assistance to people experiencing homelessness and others who have little or no resources. About 1,000 people are placed into jobs each year.

MCC was founded in 1921 as a resource for jobless veterans facing the recession after World War I. In addition to providing meals and other essential services, the organization served as a referral source to help businesses and residents hire Seattle’s homeless and unemployed and pay them directly. In 2012, MCC began to supply temporary and temp-to-hire staffing services as the employer of record and in September 2014 shifted all of its labor services to this new model.

Says Interim Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer Christine Rylko, “We hope that Uplift Northwest is the foundation for 100 more years of service to those who need it most." Adds Board Chairwoman Christina Gehrke, “We believe that through support and compassion we can and will help lift people up towards a better place through employment opportunities, supporting services, and a true belief in everyone’s potential.”
